Guilherme_Rodrigues spielt Cello

Guilherme Rodrigues is a Lisbon-born cellist, improviser, and composer, known for his dynamic and innovative approach to music. Beginning his musical journey at the age of seven, he studied cello and trumpet at the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa and later at the Conservatório Nacional de Música de Lisboa, specializing in classical music and music theory until his early twenties.
Guilherme’s work merges classical and extended cello techniques, offering a fresh experience that is both polyrhythmic and attractive. His compositions span both acoustic and electro-acoustic realms, with performances celebrated for their powerful soundscapes.
In spring 2022, Guilherme released Acoustic Reverb, an investigation project supported by Musikfonds, documenting the unique acoustics of nine Berlin churches. This album further explores the intricate relationship between sound and space. He also received a Neustart Kultur stipendium for his project Extended Techniques on the Cello, which serves as a valuable resource for musicians and scholars. Composers frequently consult this document for their own compositions, benefiting from the detailed descriptions and video demonstrations of advanced cello techniques.
Guilherme has also been instrumental in founding several ensembles. He is the founder of the Red List Ensemble, an experimental collective that blends free improvisation, electronics, and complex dynamics, as well as co-founder of Dis Con Sent, an ensemble rooted in contemporary and improvised music. He is also a core member of the Reanimation Orchestra, a multidisciplinary group of musicians exploring the intersection of composition, improvisation, and interpretation through a variety of sonic resources, including strings, woodwinds, and electronics.
Beyond performing, Guilherme teaches cello from his home in Berlin, sharing his expertise and passion with students. As a key figure in the European improvised music scene, he continues to push the boundaries of sound exploration through his performances, workshops, and collaborations across Europe and Asia.

Paula Sánchez: Situated in the intersections of experimental music, free improvisation and performance art, Paula Sánchez’s work focuses on the composition/decomposition of a mutable sound space. With a markedly interdisciplinary profile, she found her first voice as a performer and composer in the fields of theater and performance art. She completed her musical studies of Violoncello at the University of San Juan Argentina. Later she earned two Master’s Degrees—in Improvisation at the Musik Akademie in Basel, and in Contemporary Art Practice/Sound Art at Bern University of Arts in Switzerland.
Since 2018 she has been active in contemporary music and improvisation circles in Europe, participating in numerous concerts and projects in Switzerland, France, Germany and Spain. She stands out for her use of extended techniques and unconventional ways of playing, working with materials like plastic, glass and elements from nature combined with voice and electronics. Hers is the pure presence of an embodied sound which invents its relationships as it makes its way into nothingness.
